A senior Yemeni security official has escaped an assassination attempt in Ma'rib Governorate in northeast Yemen, a security source said.

A bomb planted along the main road near the Ma'rib Market targeted Provincial Political Security Apparatus Chief Naji Hatroum, the source said in news remarks.

Two bodyguards escorting the security official were slightly injured.

The incident is under investigation to find the perpetrators.

Al-Qaeda network had carried out assassination attempts against several Yemeni security officials.
