Qatar has condemned the human rights violation in Syria, and the brutal massacres committed by the country’s regime against its own people, saying murders and acts of terrorism perpetrated by the forces against innocent children, women and elderly people are claiming dozens of lives of freedom seekers daily.

This came in the speech delivered by Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office and other international organisations in Geneva, HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani, at the 20th round of the Human Rights Council, currently in session.

At the outset of her speech, HE Sheikha Alya said that the land that witnessed great ancient civilizations is now at the doorstep of a new one, which is the blood civilization.

She added that Qatar condemns in the strongest terms the violations of human rights in Syria, that has been going on for over a year, during which the international community tried to contain the situation through regional and international initiatives that the regime accepted voluntarily, and then failed, betting on the time that passed to change the demands of freedom into a survival desire amid the bullets and cannon fires.

She cited the massacre of Al-Houla in which, according to the International Commission of Inquiry’s report, mortar and artillery shells were used and the killing of victims with machineguns and knives, in addition to robbing their houses.
