Focus on food safety system

Oman Daily Observer - 02 July, 2012

The details of the 3rd Oman International Food Safety Conference which will take place from October 29 to 31have been announced by the OITE Conferences yesterday.

Themed 'Putting Practice into Action — Raising the Standards of Food Safety in Oman to an International Level', the event will see key speakers address real issues, provide regulatory updates, highlight global trends and best practices in food safety, and conduct interactive discussions and orientations on the latest international food safety standards in a bid to provide solutions across the entire food supply chain and raise the country's food safety system to an international level.

Key Topics include 'Updates and developments in Oman's Food Safety Programmes’; ‘Scientific and Technical Presentations’; ‘International Policy Implementations'; ‘Strategic Implementation and Management of Food Safety Programmes and Initiatives’; and ‘Food borne Illnesses and Outbreaks and Technology Solutions to Food Safety’. As the global population increases, food producers worldwide face increasing challenges to deliver safe, inexpensive, nutritious food. With the rise of food safety incidents around the globe, food safety efforts by food law regulators are being doubled, the overriding challenge being the achievement of food safety across the global supply chain while ensuring regulatory compliance. In the light of this phenomenon, now is a good time as any to analyse the issues of food safety in Oman.

A dedicated display area will offer delegates the opportunity to explore the latest cutting-edge technologies, products, services and solutions to combat food safety challenges. While last year's Conference focused on food safety challenges from a global viewpoint and included recent developments in food safety in Australia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Abu Dhabi, taking cue from their global counterparts, this year's conference will encourage the implementation of an enhanced food safety system in Oman. The event is expected to attract more than 250 key players related to the industry including senior government officials.
