Oman Daily Observer - 03 July, 2012

The Majlis Ash'shura yesterday discussed the demands of oil and gas sector workers and looked into demands for equating oil sector worker's benefits with government employees' status, as well as improving the pension of oil sector workers.

This came during the meeting of a working team entrusted with studying the conditions of workers in oil and gas companies. The meeting was presided over by Shaikh Salim bin Ali al Kaabi, Deputy Chairman of the Majlis Ash’shura and Head of the team, and attended by representatives of workers in the sector and representative of the Sultanate’s Labour Federation.

During the meeting, the participants also discussed demands to establish a court for labour issues to ensure speedy hearing and settlement of labour cases. The meeting also discussed the need for drafting a law for the oil and gas sector which regulates the relationship between workers at the sector and their companies, as well improving the pension system for oil and gas workers by making it equal to the system for government workers.
