| 30-day sentence for man accused in soldier suicide | |

FAYETTEVILLE, Ramadan 12, 1433, July 31, 2012, SPA -- A U.S. Army sergeant was sentenced Tuesday to 30 days in prison for his role in the alleged racial hazing and suicide of a Chinese-American fellow soldier in Afghanistan, AP reported.
Military prosecutors said Sgt. Adam Holcomb and seven other soldiers charged in Pvt. Danny Chen's death physically and emotionally abused the 19-year-old. Chen was found dead last October from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Chinese media came to North Carolina to cover the trial, and Asian-American rights groups were watching. "Thirty days hardly equates with Pvt. Danny Chen's life being cut short at the age of 19," Elizabeth OuYang, president of the OCA, an Asian-American civil rights organization, told The Associated Press. " ... Asian American parents will be petrified to send their sons and daughters to serve in the Army with superiors convicted of racial maltreatment."
