King's wisdom preserves ties

Arab Times - 07 May, 2012
Author: Ahmed Al-Jarallah

Once again, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Ibn Abdulaziz has proven that he gets inspiration from a verse in the Holy Quran when he handles local and foreign issues. The verse states: ‘And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel (evil) by that (deed) which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity (will become) as though he was a devoted friend’. In spite of the wound inflicted by the ragtag, King Abdullah in a clear testimony to his wisdom dealt with the current Riyadh-Cairo crisis by not repelling evil by evil.

The attacks on the Saudi embassy and the use of media to hurl curses and insults at the Kingdom was not meant only to belittle and humiliate Saudi Arabia but the leaders and the peoples of all GCC states.
Amid all this, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques showed he still holds the upper hand by hosting the Egyptian delegation and praising their initiative which represented the real will of the Egyptians.
The tragedy which transpired between Riyadh and Cairo was well read by King Abdullah that it was not only a conspiracy to target Egypt’s internal front but also its relationship with the Gulf states and the world at large.
The feature of the conspiracy was demonstrated on placards raised in front of the Saudi Embassy but the placards contradicted the intentions of those who held them and those who motivated them to do so.

Addressing the delegation, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques expressed the true sentiments of the leadership and the people of Saudi Arabia towards Egypt.
King Abdullah explained to the delegation that the ambassador was recalled to protect him from people who conspired against Egypt and to prevent the incident from escalating to the point of no return.
This was done based on the advice given by the founding father of Saudi Arabia King Abdulaziz to his children and grandchildren concerning relationship between the peoples of the two countries.
Egypt is precious to us and the people of Egypt should know that. But it is unacceptable to allow incompetence to dominate the relationships between friendly nations.
That is why it was imperative to put the train on the right track and this was demonstrated by the Military Council which took decisive measures to extinguish the flames of evil which were meant to burn the country.

The Military Council has proved that it is always the garrison of Egypt and that it is always capable of sedating evil that can destroy the nation. That is why some groups do not deserve forbearance particularly because their heinous attitudes have caused huge losses for the country on the political and security arenas and spread unprecedented corruption in the Land of the Pharaohs.
No one will disagree that the January revolution was an economic revolution aimed at solving the nation’s problems but what followed then, particularly when some opportunist groups took center stage brought economic disaster.

Those people, who revolted against what they thought was the corrupt regime of Hosni Mubarak, discovered a few months later that their dreams had been shattered and that the revolution had done more harm than good and that with every new dawn the misery worsened for the country of more than 80 million people. So, how can the destiny of the nation be entrusted in the hands of such groups?
By closing the painful Saudi-Egyptian chapter, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques has given glimmer of hope for the new phase of relationship. This is what we should be telling the people of Egypt: let bygones be bygones and whatever has transpired be the pillars of which we stand.

Animosity cannot build the future but it is imperative to rise above all and work for the present to see a clear future. All of that cannot be achieved without the Egyptians acknowledging the mess they have caused by this crisis.
That is why we say: Oh people of Egypt... Fear Allah and don’t let the minority rule you. Don’t hand over the leadership of your country into the hands of incompetent people.
