German tie-up for diabetes centre

Khaleej Times - 09 May, 2012

A new Diabetes and Endocrinology Center will be managed and supported by German healthcare provider Diabetes Zentrum Mergenthium (DZM), in accordance with a strategic partnership agreement signed on May 6 by DZM and United Eastern Medical Services (UEMedical), a UAE healthcare and development investment company.

The agreement ceremony took place in Germany and was attended by officials from DZM, UEMedical and HealthPlus, UEMedical’s Abu Dhabi network of outpatient centres.

“Attracting a German healthcare institution that is specialised in diabetes to Abu Dhabi such as DZM will improve diabetes care in the region in the long run,” said Mohamad Ali Al Shorafa Al Hamadi, UEMedical’s managing director and CEO.

The new centre will open in September and expects to receive 2,500 new patients every year. DZM has pledged to send a medical director and a team of clinicians, supporting the new enterprise with medical expertise and clinical management skills.

Through the partnership, UEMedical hopes to meet international healthcare standards set by the German Diabetes and Endocrinology Association and the American Diabetes Association.
