Novel project to financially empower women

The Peninsula - 05 July, 2012

World’s first custom designed project for women to become financially empowered and knowledgeable, especially about stock market investment will begin in Qatar in September.

The project ‘Women Leading Investing’ will be implemented through a series of practical training programmes, supported and moderated by international industry experts, a real-time investing competition and international financial forums; participants will build their financial control, confidence and provide a foundation for economic sustainability.

“It will benefit Qatari women in a number of ways,” said Marzena Hallam, Managing Director, Mibx, a business consulting institution, which will introduce the programme with other organisations and individuals.

“Firstly, we are allowing them to build into an area which is both immensely enjoyable and fulfilling but also potentially very financially rewarding,” she said.

This programme is unique and for women only and at the beginning will be predominantly only for Qataris. It is supported by international female traders and based on real prices and real markets and end with a trading competition in Qatar.

“It will start in September and run through the support of Bedaya at Katara and in association with Thomson Reuters and Qatari future leaders Hessa Mohamed Al Thani and Munera Abdulla Al Dosari and will be hosted by Mibx,” said Hallam.

The project will begin with ‘WISM’, a programme to educate women on how to invest in the stock market. It is a four week programme that is a part of Women Leading Investing project.

Women Leading Investing consists of a number of elements; practical four week programme, national trading competition, international industry expert’s advice, three forums and prizes.

The programme is designed to constantly build on the knowledge gained. “We are intending to introduce a number of further benefits for the participants after the ‘WISM programme’ is completed,” said Hallam.

“We will organise a trading competition that will be for Qataris to compete in other countries as well as an international forum which will bring together the participants and world leading investors,” she said.

Candidates for the project will be chosen more for their willingness to learn new concepts and interest in the markets and not on their previous work experience. There are no formal qualifications required.
