Prosecutor calls for death sentence in Al-Jizawee case

Saudi Gazette - 18 July, 2012

General Court of Jeddah held its first session Tuesday to look into the case of Ahmad Al-Jizawee, the Egyptian man who was arrested a few months ago at Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport by customs department personnel for trying to smuggle over 21,000 Xanax tablets into the Kingdom. The Prosecutor General demanded that the death sentence be handed down to Al-Jizawee.

Also standing trial are two of Al-Jizawee’s accomplices — a Saudi and an Egyptian.

The pills were allegedly stashed inside containers of baby power and boxes containing copies of the Holy Qur’an.

The session was one of several upcoming sessions which will be held in the presence of the Prosecutor General and the accused, who will have a chance to reply to the charges leveled against him.

Sources said the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution enclosed a report with the case issued by the Toxicology and Forensic Chemistry Center in Jeddah which proves that the sample pills do contain globally-banned substances.
